TomTom Event_Loger y TrailRunner

He estado esta semana jugando con la nueva versión 8.0 del Event Logger for TomTom GO (artículo anterior) y ahora funciona de maravilla en mi TomTom ONE. :D Sin cuelgues ni reinicios raros, y ya permite logar rutas que se aparten de las carreteras tomando la información directa del receptor GPS (antes sólo la podía obtener a través de un API de la propia aplicación de TomTom, que le aplica un procesado para ajustarla a las carreteras del mapa).

trailrunner.jpgY una vez que he visto que el invento funciona, me he ido a correr un par de veces ésta semana con el TomTom en la riñonera, para jugar un poco con el TrailRunner.  Mola, importa el GPX perfectamente, y extrae por un lado la ruta y por otro la información del ejercicio de ese día, el tiempo que has tardado en hacer la ruta, calorías quemadas, etc. Está muy bien porque además puedes ir viendo por tramos la velocidad a la que has ido, y como el Event_Logger también registra la altura (aunque creo que no muy bien…) ves cómo afectan las cuestas al ritmo de carrera. ‘:-u

No se, si me aficiono a esto de ir usando el TrailRunner cada vez que me vaya a correr, igual acabo buscándome uno de éstos baratitos en eBay para no andar con el TomTom a cuestas todo el rato…

GPX route files with a TomTom

One of the things I’ve wanted to find out how to do ever since I got myself a TomTom ONE last year was being able to save the GPS track info to a file, so that this data could be later visualized on Google Earth or any of the sport-tracks programs available for jogging, biking, etc. (like TrailRunner for MacOS X). There are several formats to this end, GPX being the more extended one (and XML-based).

I’ve finally found a small program that is installed on the TomTom SD card (that, by the way, is an embedded Linux!) and stores all the GPS data on a GPX file:

Don’t get fooled by its name, as it supports more TomTom models besides the GO. And in fact, there’s a new 7.2 release (as of now only available to those who have donated money to the project) that improves compatibility with all the TomTom models and fixes several annoying issues present on previous releases.

Give it a try, it’s quite useful. And besides archiving routes, Event_Logger adds another feature to the TomTom that’s available on ther GPS units and I really missed on my ONE: automatic night-mode switching, depending on the calculated sunrise/sunset times four your current GPS possition. :)
